WHAT IS WINPAK#1
----------------
With the advent of Windows 3.1, Windows now offers built-in
support for animated, graphical screen savers.
A screen saver is a program that will animate the computer
display after a certain "timeout" period to keep a moving image
on the screen so that the computer screen won't become burned-in.
"Burn in" can result from having a computer screen displaying the
same image for long periods of time, and ruins a monitor
necessitating it's replacement. Screen burn-in is NOT uncommon.
By installing WinPak#1, users can select from 8 new screen savers
that offer a variety of advanced, entertaining screen animations.
Each of these screen savers allow the option of setting a custom
timeout value and an optional security password.
These screen savers can be used to save screens, to provide
entertaining animation sequences, and to provide for password
security while away from the computer.
VERIFICATION OF FILES
---------------------
At this point, please look for all of the files that belong to
the WinPak#1 package. All of the files are listed in the file
PACKING.TXT If the PACKING.TXT file or any of the files listed in
PACKING.TXT are missing, please contact us for an official copy
of WinPak#1 -- it would not be fair to either the user or Rhode
Island Soft Systems, Inc. to have a user evaluate an incomplete
package.

INSTALLING WINPAK#1
-------------------
WinPak#1 is shipped with a comprehensive installation program to
automate traditional installation. To install WinPak#1, you must
be in the Windows environment. To install WinPak#1 we will use
the SETUP program supplied as part of the package.
From Program Manager's main window, select "File". This will
cause a menu to drop down. Next, select "Run...". A dialog box
will pop up requesting a "Command Line".
If the WinPak#1 files are on a floppy disk, insert the diskette
into the A: or B: drive, as appropriate and type either
"A:\SETUP" or "B:\SETUP", respectively. We must execute the
"SETUP" program that is located on the floppy disk.
If the WinPak#1 files are in a directory on a hard drive, enter
the full drive and directory path to where the WinPak#1 files are
located, such as: "C:\DOWNLOAD\TEMP\SETUP".
Please note that these are just examples -- the directories names
and drives will certainly be different for each individual
computer. The above examples are for illustrative purposes only.
After entering the command to execute SETUP, press the ENTER key
or click on the "OK" button.
At this point SETUP will handle the entire process of installing
the WinPak#1 files.
To activate the screen savers, we must first select the "Main"
group in Program Manager. Next, select the "Control Panel" icon.
Finally, within Control Panel, select the "Desktop" icon. The
"Screen Saver" portion of the dialog box will now contain the
WinPak#1 modules in the list of Screen Saver "Names". The
WinPak#1 modules can be easily identified as they are labeled
with "WP=>".

SUMMARY
-------
WinPak#1 is a package of eight screen saver "add-ons" for Windows
3.1. The screen savers included in this package support the
standard screen saver options, such as user-selectable timeouts,
security passwords, and so forth.
The WinPak#1 screen savers are high quality, exciting animation
modules that provide valuable screen saving functionality as well
as system password security and entertainment. Of course, they
are also quite a conversation piece!

DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
-----------------------
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.

WinPak#1 is a "shareware package" and is provided at no charge to
the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. You are encouraged to pass a
copy of WinPak#1 along to your friends for evaluation. Please
encourage them to register their copy if they find that they can
use it. Please refer to the VENDOR.TXT file for details on
distributing WinPak#1.
If you find this package useful and find that you are using
WinPak#1 and continue to use WinPak#1 after a reasonable trial
period (60 days maximum), you must make a registration payment of
$14.95 to Rhode Island Soft Systems, Inc. The registration fee
will license one copy for use on any one computer at any one
time. If you do not have a copy of the WinPak#1 Version 1.1
package, or are missing any of the files listed in the
PACKING.TXT file, you may obtain a full registered version of
WinPak#1 1.1 on diskette directly from Rhode Island Soft Systems,
Inc. for $19.95 (U.S.).
WinPak#1 must be licensed for each machine that it is used on.
Unless you have multiple computers, or use WinPak#1 both at home
and on your computer at work, this stipulation will mostly apply
to businesses and organizations.
Site licenses, however, are available to cover these situations.
Please refer to the section on Site Licenses for more
information.
Users of WinPak#1 must register and pay for their copies of
WinPak#1 within 60 days of first use or their license is
withdrawn.

BENEFITS OF REGISTRATION
------------------------
What will registration yield? Besides rightfully paying for a
product that is being used, a user will actually receive some
very important benefits.
Upon receiving a registration, Rhode Island Soft Systems, Inc.
will immediately return a written receipt, a letter of
acknowledgment thanking the user for registering the software,
literature on any special offers available at the time of
registration, and the latest issue of RISS News, our company
newsletter!
The user is immediately placed in our database of registered
users from which we generate mailing lists for our newsletter
which is used to announce upgrades to our products, or new
products altogether. This is very important since many users
have registered "old" versions of our software, not knowing that
a newer version was available. We were able to provide them with
a new version which they might not have received otherwise.
Registered users are provided with discounts on other products,
as they are released, as well as limited-time special offers that
we are able to grant at the time of registration. (In the past
we've been able to grant major discounts on several different
magazines, free subscriptions to CompuServe, free CompuServe
usage credits, and more!)
Registered users will receive special discounts on additional
WINPAK Screen Saver Collections!
Registered users are encouraged to take advantage of our
Corporate BBS. Of course, your registrations provide us with the
capital necessary for us to continue providing new versions of
WinPak#1 as well as other new products, and additional WINPAKs.
While we courteously answer all letters we receive, registered
users are provided with the highest possible degree of customer
support for their questions and concerns.

INTERNATIONAL (NON-U.S.) REGISTRATIONS
--------------------------------------
While it is true that we are based in the United States of
America, we highly value our International Users! We've learned
the "hard way", however we firmly believe that we are now in a
much better position to serve our International customers more
effectively.
For International Orders, the most convenient method of payment
would probably be to charge the order to a Visa, MasterCard,
AmEx, or Discover card. However, we do accept checks of course.
We request that, whenever possible, all checks or money orders be
made out in U.S. currency and drawn on a U.S. bank. Often it
is not possible to have a check drawn on a U.S. Bank, and we
understand that.
Canadian customers can send checks written in U.S. Dollars from
a U.S. Dollar account, drawn on a Canadian bank, without giving
the matter any further thought. If you'd prefer to write a check
in Canadian dollars, please apply the current exchange rate.
From other countries, however, we request that we be provided
with a "Postal Money Order" from your National Post Office, or an
American Express International Money Order. "U.S. Currency" or
"U.S. Dollars" should be clearly marked on the check.
If none of the options above are possible, then we require an
extra US$10 check-cashing fee be added to the cost of
registration. We apologize for this extra charge, however we are
charged US$10 just to cash an International Check. When writing
a check or money order in non-U.S. currency, please make the
necessary monetary conversions so that when we cash the
check/money order we receive the full cost of the registration
plus the equivalent of US$10 to cover the check cashing fee.
Users will be credited only for the amount received after
conversion.

SITE LICENSE INFORMATION

Site licenses/volume discounts are available. Screen Savers are
of paramount importance to computers being used in the work
place. Businesses report the highest frequency of burn-in. For
a small cost, you could save your business from having to buy an
endless supply of new monitors. The cost of registering WinPak#1
will more than pay for itself, and continue to save you large
sums of money in the future.
A Site License basically provides volume discounts on purchases
of multiple copies of WinPak#1.
For your convenience, we do accept Purchase Orders on Site
Licenses from Schools and Businesses.

fantastic discounts, and a copy of the site license registration
form.

OUR FAIR, NO FEAR UPGRADE POLICY
--------------------------------
At Rhode Island Soft Systems, Inc. we strive to provide quality
software and the best customer service possible. As such, we
have instituted an upgrade policy which we believe to be very
fair to our valued users.
Due to the nature of shareware, many users are still receiving
and registering "outdated" versions of WinPak#1. Upon receipt of
registration we promptly inform the user of the availability of a
newer version, and allow the user the option of upgrading to the
new version for only the difference in price between the old
version and the new. If the next version sells for the same
price, then there is no charge for the upgrade!
The user is in no way obligated to upgrade, however if he/she
chooses this option, the user is able to register the new version
for the same total cost as if he/she had registered the newer
version to begin with. Upgrading does not cost the user ANYTHING
over the normal registration price of the newer version.
Due to this policy, our users should not be wary of registering
WinPak#1 Version 1.1. If a newer version of WinPak#1 should be
available at the time of registration, all users will be provided
the option of upgrading to the new version for only the
difference in registration fee -- registrations of WinPak#1 are
never obsolete!

At Rhode Island Soft Systems, Inc. we strive to provide the

proliferation of IBM-compatible systems, however, we can not
possibly test our software on every single system under every
possible combination of hardware and software configurations.
As such sometimes a problem does arise, with a particular
configuration, which we are able to investigate and solve. We
